Ireland

Clovers, leprechauns, the "luck o' the Irish" and thick, dark, delicious beer... is there really anything else like Ireland? Steeped in history and tradition, Ireland is arguably our favorite place in the world. A country of story-tellers, authors, beer-makers and legends, Ireland is seemingly the place where everyone in America wishes they were from. "I'm half-Irish... my grand-mother's great-grand-father's cat was a quarter Irish, so I'm..." If you've been to the Ireland, you understand. Everyone wants to be Irish, and in a way I suppose we are:

Capital City: Dublin

Language: English and Irish. Though English is most widely spoken, many of the signs outside of major cities are both in English and Irish, and Irish citizens study the Irish language throughout their formative schooling (though rarely speak it as adults).

Currency: Euro (EUR). EUR is currently 0.93 for 1 USD.

Power Adapter: In Ireland the power sockets are of type G. The standard voltage is 230 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.

Crime & Safety: In general, Ireland is very safe. Given its reputation as a country where alcohol flows freely, you have the occasional drunken incident at a pub, and in some areas in Dublin the vibe can get rowdy around such establishments. Even still, if you don't generally make yourself a part of the drama, you won't be a part of it. Violent crime rates are only one tenth of what they are in the U.S.. The only thing you should be wary of is petty theft or pick-pocketing in more densely populated areas.

Emergency Number: 112 or 999
