5 Best Day Trips from Berlin

Berlin is the capital of Germany and one of the most developed and fun cities in Europe. If you live in Berlin or you intend to spend your next vacation in Berlin, you may once in a while want to get outside this city to experience some of the other places in Germany besides Berlin. To avoid incurring lots of costs on accommodation when you travel to another city, you may opt to do one-day visits to those places and then return to Berlin.

The good news is there are a couple of other great cities and places that are just a couple of kilometers from Berlin that you can visit and return within a day. In this article, I will share with you the top five places that you can visit for a day trip from Berlin.

Potsdam

Potsdam is 35Km from Berlin. It will take you less than 45minutes to drive from Berlin to Potsdam. While in Potsdam, there are quite a lot of activities that you can do in just a day. Some of these include;

  • Visit Sanssouci Palace: This palace was built in the 18th century for the King of Prussia. The palace has lots of historical temples and follies in it where you will learn a lot of Prussia’s history. It is one of the most rated tourism sites in Potsdam.
  • Sanssouci This park surrounds the Sanssouci Palace and is one of the most fun spots in summer. If you want to escape the loud noise in Berlin, taking a walk in a natural environment of this park would be a great experience for you.

Hanover

Hanover is the third-largest city in northern German behind Bremen and Hamburg. It will take you about two to three hours to travel from Berlin to Hanover depending on the means of transport you use to get there. There are several things that you can do while in this City. Some of these include;

  • Visit the Herrenhäuser Gardens. These gardens have existed since the times of the 17th century during the days of the imperial electors and Kings of Hanover.

Leipzig

This is one of the largest cities in the German state of Saxony. It will take you about 2 hours to travel from Berlin to Leipzig. Unlike Berlin, Leipzig is a very peaceful and quiet city that you should consider visiting if you want to be in a quiet environment. Some of the places you can visit while in Leipzig include;

  • Leipzig zoo. This zoo has over 850 species of animals and birds that you will enjoy seeing especially if you love animals. It’s a must-visit if you happen to come to this city.
  • Monument to the Battle of the Nations: This monument that was completed in 1913 commemorates the defeat of Napoleon’s French army at Leipzig. It is one of the most valued tourism sites in this city and German as a country.

Hamburg

It will take you approximately 3 to 3.5 hours to drive from Berlin to Hamburg. It is one of the major cities in German that you should consider visiting for a day trip. There are several fun activities that you can do while in Hamburg. Here are some of those that we recommend.

  • Go to Planten un Blomen: This is one of those places where you can chill and relax in the lawn as you enjoy the green environment and the splashes of water from the fountains around. It is one of the most visited places in this city.

Lehnitz Sea

    Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience. Only with everything there is to see in Berlin is already a lot of history. Hanovre I think is a good option to complete the route through the country. We already know the part of Colonia and we want to enter the Berlin area.
